Op-Docs

All Her Dying Lovers   by Anna Benner and Eluned Zoe Aiano  Imagine a rumor starting about someone in the time of WWII and it still being talked about and known to this day. All Her Dying Lovers is just that. Czechoslovakia WWII, a woman getting her own revenge on Nazis. Anna Benner says "the story in question involves a nurse, Nazis, seduction and syphilis, but no-one can agree on what really happened". Told through many people in the Czech Republic, this Op-Doc illustrated in stunning animation, shows the story of a nurse who contracted an STI after being raped, who then got the brilliant idea of getting revenge against the Nazis. The animation in this short is truly beautiful, it shows every emotion of the woman and the narration of the many people being interviewed tells the audience every action she made. The Op-Doc and the many different endings each person is giving in the film shows how one single story of a person can be morphed into something completely differ...

What Does it Mean to be a Man?

Society paints a picture for men that in order to be accepted into society as a 'man' they have to have a mean and aggressive personality. Why? Who knows. Jackson Katz, writer of Tough Guise 2 , argues that "we live in a culture that connects manhood to guns and a willingness to use violence at the deepest level of men's identity", which goes back to what I said in the beginning because it's true. Men tend to think that they need to live up to certain standards that society give them in order to be seen as more of a 'man'. What's that? Toxic masculinity.
