Arguing: Look At The Other Side!

Image
How annoying is it to argue with someone who doesn't care for the other person's opinion or who doesn't look at the other point of view of the argument? Very annoying right? So many people constantly argue with people like that. The one's who just go into an argument thinking they're better than everyone else.  When you want to have a civil and responsible argument with someone or multiple people, you have to go into it with an open mind. Yes, you can stick to your own opinion on the topic but, you have to listen to what the other participants are saying as well. In order to fully understand the argument you're in and to make valid points, you have to be open to new ideas and listen to the other side of the argument. To argue responsibly, there needs to be some sort of understanding between the people you are arguing with. Like, you respect their opinion and they respect yours, is what I'm trying to say. Without that level of respect/ understanding there...

What's Your Definition of Greatness?

There is no true definition of “greatness”. You could say, a simple word like that has many different meanings. If someone puts their mind to something they enjoy, no matter who they are, they will achieve greatness and define it in their own way. Back in July of 2012, sportswear company, Nike, released an advertisement campaign to prove that anyone is capable of being great.       “Find Your Greatness” , created by Nike, is a six minute long campaign that shows everyday athletes from around the world training, playing, and competing for the sport or activity they enjoy to play. The campaign focuses on the message that not only do championship athletes strive to achieve their goals, but even athletes like me or you compete and train to define our own definition of greatness.         I feel as though many people in today’s society need to hear a message like this. A message like; it doesn’t matter the measure of y...

Op-Docs

All Her Dying Lovers   by Anna Benner and Eluned Zoe Aiano  Imagine a rumor starting about someone in the time of WWII and it still being talked about and known to this day. All Her Dying Lovers is just that. Czechoslovakia WWII, a woman getting her own revenge on Nazis. Anna Benner says "the story in question involves a nurse, Nazis, seduction and syphilis, but no-one can agree on what really happened". Told through many people in the Czech Republic, this Op-Doc illustrated in stunning animation, shows the story of a nurse who contracted an STI after being raped, who then got the brilliant idea of getting revenge against the Nazis. The animation in this short is truly beautiful, it shows every emotion of the woman and the narration of the many people being interviewed tells the audience every action she made. The Op-Doc and the many different endings each person is giving in the film shows how one single story of a person can be morphed into something completely differ...

What Does it Mean to be a Man?

Society paints a picture for men that in order to be accepted into society as a 'man' they have to have a mean and aggressive personality. Why? Who knows. Jackson Katz, writer of Tough Guise 2 , argues that "we live in a culture that connects manhood to guns and a willingness to use violence at the deepest level of men's identity", which goes back to what I said in the beginning because it's true. Men tend to think that they need to live up to certain standards that society give them in order to be seen as more of a 'man'. What's that? Toxic masculinity.

Listen To Me!

A lot can go on in a normal conversation but, do you really listen to what the person is trying to say?
